Congratulations to Lakshya Gangwar, ATP-Bio trainee at the University of Minnesota, on receiving the 2026 Pui Best Dissertation Award! 👏

Advised by ATP-Bio Director John Bischof, Lakshya’s work represents an exciting advancement toward the future of organ preservation and transplantation.

We are proud to celebrate this well-deserved recognition and the impact of his contributions to the ATP-Bio mission! 🎉

Congratulations to Lakshya Gangwar for receiving the 2026 Pui Best Dissertation Award! 🌟

Advised by Professor John Bischof, Lakshya’s dissertation tackled one of the hardest problems in cryobiology: scaling vitrification and nanowarming to human-organ volumes. His work demonstrated the largest organ vitrification reported to date — a porcine liver approximately the size of a human organ — along with the largest physical systems vitrified (3 liters) and nanowarmed (2 liters).

These breakthroughs help lay the foundation for future organ banking and transplantation, and reflect the University of Minnesota Mechanical Engineering department’s exemplary heat transfer legacy applied to complex biological systems. ❄️🔬

New Leaders Join ATP-Bio and NetEthics Ethics & Public Policy Panel — Glenda V. Roberts, BS (Mount Sinai Health System) and Patricia J. Zettler, JD (Ohio State University School of Law) have joined 13 other leaders on the Ethics & Public Policy Panel (EP3) for the NSF-funded ATP-Bio Engineering Research Center. Ms. Roberts is an expert on patient and community engagement in organ transplantation, and Prof. Zettler is an expert on FDA law and policy. EP3 is composed of distinguished experts on ethics, law, and analysis of emerging technologies. EP3 members provide crucial input to ATP-Bio’s Ethics & Public Policy Component. ATP-Bio is a Consortium member center and its Ethics & Public Policy Component is based in the Consortium.
