Some of the most valuable lessons in manufacturing happen while you're doing the work.

That's something we've seen inside NTM for decades; experienced employees mentor newer team members, lessons learned over decades stay within the shop, and everyone benefits from the experience of the people around them. Skills grow one job at a time.

Programs like Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development's Dual Training Pipeline help create more opportunities for that kind of learning by connecting structured education with on-the-job training.

It's an approach that makes sense to us.

Minnesota Dual-Training Pipeline supports employers with creating or enhancing a competency based, earn-and-learn dual-training approach to meet their workforce needs. With Pipeline, workers receive a combination of related instruction paired with on-the-job training.

You can't celebrate 50 years of manufacturing without thinking about the next 50.

For NTM, that means helping young people see what's possible in manufacturing.

Manufacturing careers aren't always visible to students. Sometimes it takes walking into a shop, meeting the people doing the work, seeing the technology firsthand, or simply hearing someone say, "You could build a career doing this."

That's why NTM has made time to talk with students and support opportunities that introduce the next generation to manufacturing. One of our favorite ways to show up, is to support robotics clubs, like The MontiPythons, from Monticello (pictured here!)

Our industry needs curious people, problem solvers, makers, and people who like figuring out how things work.

We want them to know there's a place for them here.

A strong manufacturing community doesn't happen by accident.

It takes manufacturers willing to share knowledge, support industry organizations, volunteer their time, invest in workforce development, and help create opportunities for the people coming next.

Over the years, NTM has been proud to support Minnesota manufacturing beyond the walls of our own shop, including our involvement with the Minnesota Precision Manufacturing Association (MPMA), Society of Manufacturing Engineers ITS, Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development, Women in Manufacturing Minnesota, NAWBO and other industry initiatives.

We do it because our success is connected to the strength of the industry around us.

When Minnesota manufacturing gets stronger, we all benefit.

As we celebrate 50 years, we're proud to keep investing in the manufacturing community that has given so much to NTM.

A lot can change in 50 years.

The machines get smarter. Technology gets faster. Processes improve. New products are developed, and new challenges arrive on the shop floor.

Since opening our doors in 1976, NTM has grown from a local job shop into a precision tooling manufacturer serving manufacturers across the country.

But we've never stopped being problem solvers.

For 50 years, NTM has been proud to make things in Minnesota.

What started as a small job shop in 1976 has evolved into a precision tooling manufacturer, serving customers across the country. We’re proud to still be located in Fridley, manufacturing precision tooling, solving problems, and working alongside some of the people and organizations that make Minnesota manufacturing what it is today.

October is especially meaningful to us. It's Minnesota Manufacturing Month, and this year, it's also NTM's 50th anniversary.

So this month, we're celebrating both.

Because 50 years of NTM is also 50 years of making it in Minnesota.

Jack of all trades, master of none, though oftentimes better than master of one.

A mechanical master does not focus on one topic.
They understand how all mechanical subjects connect.

Loads create stress, stress causes failure, and failure improves design.
Formulas are tools, not intelligence.

Physics matters more than colorful software results.
If numbers don’t make physical sense, something is wrong.

A mechanical master thinks in cause and effect.
They break big problems into simple parts.

They are not afraid of topics they don’t know.
They learn from first principles.

Real machines vibrate, heat flows, and materials fail.
Good design respects real-world behavior.

Mechanical mastery is not knowing everything.
It is thinking clearly and learning continuously.

I’m curious how others define a true mechanical master.
