Most gutter problems start on day one, when the wrong system gets picked or installed badly. Here are the 5 mistakes we see all over the Twin Cities:

Gutters too small for the roof. A 5” gutter on a big steep roof overflows in every heavy rain.
Not enough downspouts. One downspout per 40 feet of gutter is the max. More runs = more spouts.
Cheap vinyl. It cracks after a couple of Minnesota winters. Aluminum costs a bit more and lasts 20+ years.
Wrong slope. Water should move, not sit. Standing water rots the fascia behind the gutter.
The cheapest bid. Crooked runs, leaky corners, missing hangers. Fixing bad work costs more than doing it right once.
