The American State Bank Sports Complex - a product of the partnership between Sioux Center, Iowa and Dordt University - has "logged 6,000 hours of use, including more than 100 softball games and 2,000 reservations" in its first year. That's over 16 hours a day!

According to their director, "Expectations have been exceeded."

The multi use space serves the entire community. From Dordt University Athletics practices to regional high schools to a Sioux Center Health physical therapy and sports medicine clinic, countless individuals and groups have made use of the predictable, reliable indoor space.

At Yeadon, we so enjoyed being a part of this project! Watching the idea become a reality was thrilling, and we are looking forward to seeing how it continues to meet the needs of the community of Sioux Center - and beyond!

We love seeing domes bringing people together. Last week, the Atrium Health Dome was the home of the 19th season of the Panthers Challenger Flag Football League.

The physical benefits of sports are well known. Kids given access to an hour of physical activity each day have improved coordination, sleep, cardiovascular health, and overall wellness. However, the benefits of sports aren’t solely physical.

Children and adolescents who play sports have improved mental and emotional development including increased self-confidence, reduced anxiety, improved concentration and problem-solving skills, and social skills gained by playing in a team or group setting.

It’s rare for children to live in a place where they can safely go outside to play every single day – between heat waves, cold spells, air quality issues, and safety concerns, kids need a reliable way to play. In the Twin Cities, The Sanneh Foundation knows that children thrive when given the space to play. Soccer camps in the Conway Athletic Complex give kids the chance to improve their physical health, while developing invaluable social and emotional skills.

Sports tend to be the activity of choice in air-supported structures, but the possibilities don't end there.

It's inspiring to see how dome owners around the globe are capitalizing on these vital and versatile community gathering places. This year, Damar Hamlin's Chasing M's Foundation teamed up with Tepper Sports & Entertainment, the American Heart Association and the Carolina Panthers inside of the Atrium Health Dome for a lifesaving CPR and AED training.

In an article, the Panthers shared how their dome is more than just a training facility: "Monday's CPR training and education programming continues Tepper Sports & Entertainment's use of Bank of America Stadium and the Atrium Health Dome as community assets."

We're proud to be a part of a project that will give a permanent home to programs that have impacted hundreds of young lives in Sante Fe, New Mexico:

"First Serve/Forked Lightning will have 12 acrylic-based hardcourt Plexicushion tennis courts, at least 10 pickleball courts, two padel tennis courts, three classrooms for third to 12th grade students, and a locker room and gym for the private tennis club members.

Six of the tennis courts and two of the pickleball courts will be inside an inflatable dome provided by Yeadon Domes of Minneapolis. First Serve youth and Forked Lightning members will overlap on the tennis court — and likely interact"

First Serve has been around for 20 years, and with the development of this complex, they'll have the ability to deepen their impact on the community. Over the years, they've learned that sports are more than just a tool to attract youth to their programs - sports programming itself can be used to develop skills, impart lessons, and create a ripple effect in other areas of participants' lives:

"Brenner since the start used tennis as a hook to attract youth to after-school tutoring and building life skills. But First Serve believes tennis itself is a tool in building character, life skills and improving academic performance."

Temperatures are soaring dangerously high around the globe. Everywhere from the deserts of Saudi Arabia to areas like Orange County – which were previously thought of as a constant paradise – have had to navigate unsafe heat waves, excessive heat warnings, and the logistical nightmare that comes with ever increasing weather-related cancelations and modifications to event schedules, sports practices, school activities, and camps.

Air-supported domes provide an easy, customized and sustainable solution to the growing issue posed by an unpredictable global climate. With seasonal and year-round structures, organizations and communities can provide their people with a place to play, gather and remain active – in a weatherproof environment protected from heat waves, preventable health risks, or unexpected cancellations.

Organizations, parents, coaches and athletes shouldn't have to choose between staying active and staying safe, but they're facing just that decision now more than ever.

This issue isn't going anywhere soon. Back in 2019, CBC News was addressing the ways heat is impacting sports, and temperatures have only gotten more volatile since then. In their article, a soccer coach and mom shares her concerns:

"As a mom and soccer coach Amanda Lucia is all about keeping her kids active, but heat is something she can't ignore any longer.

"It's a concern for us now. Our kids don't want to do camps anymore because it's too hot, they get too tired … they're almost too tired by the end of the day to do any activities or sports," she said.

"I think there needs to be a lot more opportunities for indoor camps for kids." "
