Speed vs. safety, every time the laser head moves.

Square, angle, or arc. Arc is the fastest, but it’s also the one most likely to snag a tipped-up slug if we don’t set the profiles up right. Watch all three side by side.

What do you see in this picture?

What you see, what I see, and what my operator sees might all look a little different.
You might see a press brake like one in any other shop. Just a machine that bends metal.

I see the small changes we’ve made since we installed it. The ones that have made it easier and more comfortable for the operator to run. I look at this station and ask: how can we make it even more efficient, safer, and more comfortable for the person standing in front of it every day?

A few of the things we’ve added:
An anti-fatigue mat, because the operator is on their feet all day and that matters.

A second monitor, so bending programs are easier to view at a glance.

A hydraulic clamp for loading and unloading tooling, which makes setups faster and safer.

Some of those changes came straight from our operators. They’re the ones on the machine, so they know what’s working and what isn’t. When they ask for something that makes the job better, we listen.

And some of them just showed up. The operator walks in Monday morning and something’s a little better than it was Friday. A small improvement waiting for them without them having to ask.

That’s the part people outside a shop don’t always see. A machine isn’t just a machine. It’s a workstation that a real person spends their day at, and the details add up.

Small changes. Big difference.

It might not seem like a big deal, but by the end of a long shift your feet, knees and back feel it. So we picked up some anti fatigue mats (upon request by a newer member to our team) and put them in front of the machines where the team spends the most time.

It’s not a fancy upgrade. Nobody is going to walk through the shop and notice the mats. But the guys standing on them will, and that’s who matters.

When the team feels good, they stay focused. When they stay focused, the quality shows in the parts going out the door. Taking care of the people doing the work is part of taking care of our customers.

It’s the simple things. A new tool here, a mat there. Small investments that show the team we’ve got their back.

Small things matter.

Take care of your people and they’ll take care of the work.

We take a lot of pride keeping our shop clean.

It might not always seem like it is or feel like it because we do keep the shop doors open when the weather permits. But it sure feels good when a vendor, customer or new potential customer walks through the shop and compliments on how clean the shop is. I always tell the team this, because it’s important! We don’t want to be known as the messy and dirty shop.

Clean workspaces are efficient workspaces.

If we take pride in our work areas, it shows in the quality of our work out the door and shows our customers that we care.

It’s the simple things such as a new tool to make this easier to achieve and keeps the team engaged and focused on the big picture.

Small things matter

Made a much needed upgrade to the press brake today. Added an additional screen so the operator can view the 3D simulation of the part while running the machine.

MC Machinery Systems, Inc. got our laser dialed in this week with some maintenance. Back at it right away with 30+ hours of aluminum cutting queued up!
