Not every solution starts with a perfect set of drawings.
Sometimes it starts with a problem, a budget, a lot of coordination, and a crew that knows how to make the pieces work together.
That was the challenge here.
The customer was dealing with a negative air situation in the warehouse caused by ovens, exhaust fans, and a large spray booth exhaust. At the same time, they wanted to bring some cooling into the plant without blowing up the budget.
After multiple revisions, our team worked through a plan that balanced airflow, cooling, distribution, and cost.
The solution included a 60,000 CFM make-up air unit with a direct-fired burner to replace the air being exhausted from the facility, along with seven 20-ton rooftop units providing 140 tons of cooling.
The goal wasn’t to turn the production floor into an office.
It was to pull out some humidity, bring the temperature down from the 90s, and make working conditions more manageable during the summer.
From there, coordination mattered.
We worked with Litgen to pour new equipment pads, set the equipment, and plan the duct distribution. With no formal prints or engineered duct layout to follow, our internal team worked through the routing and gave the customer as much air distribution as possible while staying within budget.
In fact, our sheet metal crew was able to provide even more distribution than originally anticipated.
The remaining work includes running a new gas feed from the meter to the make-up air unit and tying into existing high-pressure gas lines for the rooftop units.
Sometimes the job isn’t about getting a space to 72 degrees.
Sometimes it’s about making a 90+ degree production plant a whole lot more bearable.
This is the kind of project that shows what mechanical contracting really looks like in the field.
