Construction Today’s article, “Top 8 Cost-Efficient Construction Methods for Your Next Project,” highlights strategies like prefabrication, modular construction, BIM, lean construction, and energy-efficient design:
https://construction-today.com/news/top-8-cost-efficient-construction-methods-for-your-next-project/

The ideas in this article connect directly to the work we do at DePue Mechanical.

Cost-efficient construction is not just about lowering upfront costs. It is about planning smarter, reducing rework, improving coordination, and keeping projects moving safely and efficiently.

At DePue Mechanical, we help bring those ideas into the field through coordinated piping, fabrication, equipment setting, utility systems, HVAC/mechanical work, shutdown support, and installation planning.

When mechanical work is planned early, fabricated accurately, and installed right the first time, owners benefit from stronger schedules, fewer disruptions, and better long-term performance.

That is the value DePue Mechanical brings to every project: turning smart construction methods into real jobsite results.

Here’s what fab shop work looks like before it ever hits the field.

These photos show a piece coming together step by step: fit-up, first weld, and final weld.

But the work doesn’t stop once the weld is filled in.

Before fabricated pipe heads to the field, our team checks it against the drawings and performs the required testing to make sure it’s built right, holds right, and is ready to install the way it was planned.

The more we can verify in the shop, the less the field has to sort out later. Cleaner installs. Fewer surprises. Better flow for the crew putting it in place.

The welds are HOT in the fab shop!

Our fitters are currently in the DePue fab shop working on 12" and 16" steam piping for the world’s largest dry-mill ethanol facility out in Hennepin, IL. Once complete, roughly 2000 feet of piping will be shipped out to be installed on-site.

Are you looking to save time and money out in the field? Check out our prefab options for all your project needs.

A 44-year-old air handler is not built for convenience.

At PPC Packaging, our service crew recently cleaned the evaporator coil inside an aging air handling unit that’s been running for more than four decades.

Getting to the coil meant climbing inside the unit and working through years of buildup in a tight, dirty access area.

That coil is doing important work. It helps pull heat and humidity out of the air. When it gets packed with dirt and debris, the whole system starts fighting itself.

Less airflow.Less cooling.More strain on the equipment.

And in a production facility, that shows up fast.

This service helped open the coil back up, improve airflow, and give the system a better shot at keeping up without beating itself to death.

Old equipment has a way of making simple jobs complicated.

Our crew handled it and kept the unit moving.

Out in Batavia, our crew is working underground on a portion of the PIP-II project.

Inside the Linac tunnel, we're installing the CDS warm piping package, comprising nearly 3,000 linear feet of pipe ranging from ½" to 10" and approximately 840 welded joints across the system.

That kind of work starts before the first weld is made.

Material has to be moved into the tunnel, staged, handled, lifted, and installed in the right sequence. Pipe supports have to be set. Welds have to be tracked. Access has to be planned. And once the work is in place, the as-built documentation has to match what was installed in the field.

It is a tight underground environment, so the job depends on coordination between supervision, layout, rigging, welding, and installation.

For our team, this is the kind of work that shows what mechanical contracting really looks like beyond the drawings: skilled tradespeople, controlled ex*****on, and a lot of details coming together underground.

Strong work by the field team as this project continues to move forward. Follow along for more project updates like this!

Our service team was on-site at PPC Packaging in Buffalo Grove for a compressor replacement at their packaging plant.

The compressor may be the part everyone points to, but the real work is in everything around it.

Our techs are flushing the system, adding new refrigerant, and making sure the replacement has the clean start it needs to run properly. That kind of work takes time, patience, and a good eye for the details most people never see.

In a packaging plant, reliability matters. Equipment has a job to do, and so do we.

Proud of the team for handling this one thoroughly and doing the kind of repair work that helps keep production moving.

DePue was recently on-site performing maintenance on a fin fan heat exchanger for Project Rocky Road.🪨 🚧

The scope included disassembling critical components so the unit could be thoroughly cleaned and returned to proper condition.

Fin fan heat exchangers help cool hot process fluids by moving ambient air across finned tubes. When those components collect dirt, debris, or buildup, cooling efficiency can be reduced.

That makes cleaning an important part of keeping the system at the right temperature.

For industrial facilities, even small drops in heat transfer can create larger issues over time. Proper maintenance helps support equipment reliability, system performance, and long-term uptime.

This work is a good example of the maintenance that keeps critical process equipment doing its job.
