Solar Plexus is proud to have reached 30 years in business – local and family-owned since the beginning. It’s been a long haul - anyone who’s spent time here knows that Montana has always been slow to catch up with the trends in the rest of the country, but net-metered solar is finally gaining ground here. Unfortunately, that also means that several large out-of-state companies have discovered us and their salespeople (who work on commission) are eager to capitalize on the green wave. Please beware of high-pressured sales tactics and false information about tax credits, net-metering policies and financing. If anyone tells you the 30% Federal ITC is a check from the government, they are wrong. If they tell you that net-metering is soon going away, they are wrong. If they tell you that you will be guaranteed to be grandfathered in at the same rates if net-metering terms change, they are wrong. If they tell you that solar generation can offset your ENTIRE bill, they are wrong. If they tell you that the banks won’t lend to anyone who doesn’t make $45,000 per year, they are wrong. These are only some examples of misleading statements – do your due diligence and get several quotes, ask good questions and don’t be pressured into making an immediate decision. There are enough companies (local and otherwise) that you have options. We always recommend clients look at the Clearwater Credit Union’s solar loan site – even if you don’t need financing it’s an excellent resource for learning how to evaluate a bid and the questions you should be asking your salesperson or installer.
