! The U.S is the largest producer of almonds, harvesting 80% of the world's crop. And California is the biggest producer in the United States! Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) are substantial to prevent almonds' biological contamination. Irrigation water may be a source of harmful bacteria, such as Salmonella and E. coli, or may spread bacteria from another source in orchards, contaminating the almonds.
