From the banks of the Rock River to the shop.

Today’s build started with a bike ride into the woods looking for driftwood along the river. I cut and hauled the logs back by bike, used my Frontiersman tool to create the joinery and drilled connections by hand, then paired the base with a live-edge walnut top finished with a brass Garrett Concepts signature plate and tung oil.

I’ve always believed good pieces should carry a story — not just be manufactured.

This one was gathered, hauled, shaped, joined, and finished by hand from start to finish.

Finally got this Corten steel cross permanently installed on the bank of the Rock River today.

This piece was created as a permanent memorial honoring lives lost to addiction and the ongoing fight for recovery. Built from solid weathering steel and anchored into the earth, it will continue to evolve over time — the surface deepening, changing, and strengthening with the elements.

My work is rooted in permanence, material truth, and meaning. Steel, when left honest, tells a story of endurance — and this piece is meant to stand as a quiet symbol of resilience, faith, and remembrance.

My dad and I always butted heads on decal ideas. He always wanted as much information as possible on there, and I wanted it as minimalist as possible.
The decals are going to hold me accountable for my driving again — no more brake stands.
Building the company for the second time has made me slow my roll. I’ve got a slow, steady upward trajectory this time.

Made this today because i wanted to know the actual temperature and humidity in the house.

It reminded me of somthing i might have seen on my aunt Barb and uncle Terry's houseboat back in the day.

My uncle Terry taught me how to build when i was young and its been a passion of mine ever since.

I'll do my best to pass it on Terry!

GARRETT CONCEPTS — Stepping Into a New Class of Craftsmanship

These brass signature plates just showed up, and they mark a turning point for me.

For years I’ve built one-of-a-kind architectural pieces — and now I'm building pieces with intention, weight, and artistry.

A client recently asked if I could put a name plate on the ten-foot corten cross I made for him. At first I didn’t understand why it mattered. Now I do.

When someone asks for your signature on a piece, it’s because they want to tell a story about it.
They want people to know who made it.
They want the work to carry a sense of identity and prestige.

These plates will go on every finished piece from here on out — sculptures, architectural features, maquettes — anything that carries the Garrett Concepts DNA.

This is more than branding.
It’s a promise to myself:
