Myth: “If oil isn’t visibly floating on top, then there's no oil in the water.”

Fact: Not all oil separates into a visible layer. Industrial processes, detergents, agitation, and heat can create emulsified oil (tiny droplets suspended throughout the water) that may not be visible to the naked eye. Even when wastewater appears clean, residual oil can interfere with treatment systems, impact discharge quality, and create compliance challenges. Understanding the difference between free oil and emulsified oil is often a critical first step in selecting the right treatment approach.

Valicor works with facilities and manufacturers to evaluate oily wastewater streams and identify treatment strategies that address both visible and hidden contaminants.

Myth: “Sustainable wastewater treatment is mostly about optics and perception.”

Fact: Sustainable treatment is driven by process performance, not appearance. Approaches like proper pretreatment, separation, and biological or chemical treatment help stabilize wastewater characteristics, protect downstream systems, and ensure consistent compliance with discharge limits. When managed effectively, these systems don’t just reduce environmental impact, they also improve operational reliability by minimizing upsets, reducing variability, and extending equipment life. Sustainability in wastewater is ultimately measured by how well systems perform over time, both operationally and environmentally.

Valicor works with facilities and manufacturers to implement treatment strategies that support consistent operations while delivering meaningful environmental outcomes.

Land application has long been a favorable option for managing certain waste streams, but the rules around it are changing.

As regulators focus more closely on trace contaminants, PFAS, and long-term environmental impact, facilities may need to rethink how they plan for industrial wastewater and related materials.

We covered what is driving these changes and why alternative treatment pathways are becoming more important, today on the Valicor Blog: https://www.valicor.com/blog/why-land-application-restrictions-are-tightening

Myth: “Stormwater is just natural runoff, and we don’t need to worry about it.”

Fact: Stormwater starts as rain, but once it contacts industrial surfaces, it can pick up oils, metals, sediments, and other contaminants. What flows off a site often reflects what’s stored, handled, or exposed outdoors. Because of this, stormwater is frequently regulated under discharge permits and requires monitoring and control measures. Improper management can lead to violations, fines, or increased regulatory scrutiny—especially if contaminants are found in runoff.

Valicor works with facilities to better understand and manage stormwater as part of a broader approach to wastewater compliance and environmental responsibility.

This Earth Day, it’s worth asking a simple question: What if waste isn’t the end of the story?

Sustainability isn’t just about big words or ideas. It’s about the everyday systems that protect our water, reduce emissions, and help industries do better.

Let's take a moment to explore how rethinking waste can create real impact, today on the Valicor Blog: https://www.valicor.com/blog/earth-day-turning-waste-into-opportunity

Myth: “We don’t really have to deal with new regulatory requirements until they’re finalized.”

Fact: Waiting for regulations to be finalized often leaves little time to adapt. Proposed rules, guidance updates, and emerging enforcement trends typically signal where requirements are heading well in advance. Facilities that track these developments early are better positioned to adjust processes, evaluate waste streams, and avoid last-minute disruptions. In many cases, by the time rules are finalized, expectations around compliance are already taking shape.

Valicor works with facilities and manufacturers to anticipate regulatory changes, evaluate impacts on their operations, and prepare for compliance before requirements are formally in place.

It’s not just that product recalls are happening. It’s how they’re evolving.

In 2026, recalls are moving faster, reaching further, and carrying more brand impact than before. What used to be a contained issue can now become a much broader event across products, facilities, and markets.

We explored some of the trends driving this shift and what they mean for manufacturers across industries, today on the Valicor blog: https://www.valicor.com/blog/product-recall-trends-brand-protection-2026

Product recalls in 2026 are being shaped by broader regulatory scrutiny, faster detection, and growing brand risk. See what trends are affecting food, consumer products, automotive, and more.

Water is quickly becoming a defining factor in data center growth.

From cooling system design to permitting and community impact, operators are facing new challenges that can’t be solved with traditional approaches.

In our latest insight, we explore why water can no longer be treated as an afterthought, and what it means for the future of data center strategy.

We’re expanding, and this one is a big step forward for Valicor.

With the acquisition of Petromax LTD’s Pittsburgh-area operations, we’ve officially entered Pennsylvania and strengthened our presence in the Mid-Atlantic.

What this means:

• 32 facilities across 16 states
• Greater capacity to support industrial customers
• Expanded capabilities in sustainable wastewater treatment and recycling

But more importantly, this move brings us closer to our customers with environmentally responsible waste and wastewater solutions.

Myth: “Mixing all of our waste into one tank makes it easier for us to manage.”

Fact: Combining multiple waste streams can seem convenient in the moment, especially when space or time is limited. But once different materials are mixed together, the resulting stream often becomes more complex to characterize and treat. Incompatible chemistries, diluted contaminants, or unknown compositions can limit recycling or recovery options and may require more intensive treatment. Segregating waste streams at the source typically improves safety, preserves treatment pathways, and reduces downstream processing challenges.

Valicor encourages thoughtful waste segregation as a way to maintain flexibility, compliance, and efficiency throughout the treatment process.

PFAS is a major topic in any environmental conversation, but often discussions tend to focus on where the chemicals originate rather than where they ultimately end up. In reality, wastewater systems and landfills often become collection points for PFAS as materials move through industrial processes, consumer products, and other waste streams.

We take a closer look at why these systems are drawing more regulatory and scientific attention, and how PFAS can move through wastewater and landfill infrastructure, today on the Valicor blog: https://www.valicor.com/blog/why-pfas-is-drawing-increasing-legal-and-regulatory-attention-around-wastewater-and-landfills
