This is AWESOME!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS! Carmelo Castle has set a new precedent in Texas by becoming the first student to complete a high school plumbing program and pass the state licensing exam, allowing him to start his career at just 18 years old.

A Woodville High School graduate, he is now employed with Local 68 Plumbing, working at a second-year tradesman level. His accomplishment shows how career and technical education can open direct pathways to stable, in-demand jobs. Supported by his instructor, John Bunker, Castle’s success is helping shine a light on the value of skilled trades and inspiring other students to explore practical, hands-on career options after high school. Congrats Carmelo!

Take it from someone who has built businesses: Most entrepreneurs fail because they try to skip stages.

They want to be the visionary CEO. But they’ve never led a team. Never sold a product/service. Never managed managers. Never built systems.

That was me. I tried to jump from “doing everything” to “designing everything.” I forced big-company org charts into teams that weren’t ready. Half my team didn’t understand the vision. The other half was Culture broke. Operations collapsed.

So I went back and did it right.

Today, I spend my days just overseeing and getting impressed with how my team operates.
I do a lot of my checking-in on WhatsApp and Slack knowing that everyone understands the big goal we’re striving towards.
My role is mostly strategy, M&A, client satisfaction and mentoring.

But that only works because I built the structure first. The stages taught me how to earn that freedom.

Skip stages, and you pay with time, cash, and morale. But master each one, and the next comes easier✨🖤💛

Desmond Durham, a single dad from New Jersey, balanced three jobs, late-night studies, and parenting to earn his master’s degree in arts and educational leadership from Montclair State University. Despite a demanding schedule, he delivered the commencement speech and hopes his story inspires others to pursue their goals. Durham says finding your “why” can drive you through any challenge and transform both your life and the lives of those you impact. 🎓💪
