Those high temps have backed off for week or so, but they will be back and hotter than ever soon enough. Let us be mindful of our elderly and check on them daily. Keep the kiddos cooled off with popsicles and plenty of available shade. To all of those who work outside in the heat, be aware of signs of heat stroke and exhaustion:

Key Symptoms of Heat Stroke

1. High Body Temperature: A core body temperature of 104°F (40°C) or higher is the primary indicator of heat stroke
2. Altered Mental State: This can include confusion, agitation, slurred speech, irritability, delirium, seizures, or even loss of consciousness
3. Changes in Sweating: In heat stroke caused by hot weather, the skin may feel hot and dry to the touch. However, if heat stroke is due to strenuous exercise, the person may still be sweating profusely
4. Nausea and Vomiting: Individuals may feel sick to their stomach or may vomit
5. Flushed Skin: The skin may appear red as the body temperature rises
6. Rapid Breathing: Breathing may become rapid and shallow as the body struggles to cool down
7. Racing Heart Rate: The pulse may significantly increase due to the stress heat places on the heart
8. Headache: A throbbing headache can also be a symptom of heat stroke.
