Plungers ran past their breaking point again.
Motor valve malfunction caused rapid cycling — plunger never reached bottom, shearing the fishneck clean off.
We don’t monitor the motor valves… but we sure get to fix what they break downhole.

Another real-world BHA lesson:
Always use actual well deviation data — never rely solely on old notes or memory.

On this well, the X profile sat at 65° deviation, but they had to fish from the XN landing at 77°. Because the deviation wasn’t properly accounted for, the BHA wasn’t setting correctly. Instead, it traveled up and down the tubing, causing heavy wear on the spring section (see close-ups). It eventually wore down enough to fall through the profile.

Quick deviation tip:
Even a 5° difference can prevent tools from landing properly. Accurate deviation surveys let you select the right landing ni**le and avoid excessive sliding wear.

Bottom line:
Verify actual depth + deviation data before every run. It prevents fishing jobs and keeps plungers performing.

During a recent customer well visit for our BHA maintenance program, we were called out because the plunger wasn’t running properly.
Upon inspection, we pulled two complete BHAs stacked on top of each other — the one on the left was on the bottom, and the one on the right was sitting directly on top of it.
This is exactly why good record keeping and accurate data tracking matter. Proper documentation and maintenance logs could have caught this before it ever became a problem in the well.
Always verify your BHA inventory and installation records — it saves time, money, and headaches down the road!

✅ Fishing Job Done Right!
Just pulled 30 ft of 2-1/8" tool string + RVP plug out of 5-1/2" casing with a 3-1/8" overshot.
Tool string had been dropped downhole, so we went in, latched up clean, and brought it all back to surface.
The data shows we had good pull force on the fish — you can see the tension spike clearly on the charts when it came free. Solid numbers all the way through.
Another good one in the books! 💪
