At 3 World Trade Center, our BMU was designed around the building’s , not the other way around. The tower steps back multiple times, with large terraces and recessed façades that create incredible outdoor spaces for tenants, but also serious access challenges for maintenance teams
To solve this, our in‑house engineering team and factory developed a custom Building Maintenance Unit capable of tracking every setback from the lower terraces up to the crown of the tower. The system delivers full façade reach across the K‑braced elevations and deep terrace cut‑outs, allowing safe, efficient window cleaning and inspections on all sides of the building.
Mounted on the roof and tailored to the geometry of 3 , the can outreach past parapets and overhangs to pick up the façades below each terrace level. When not in use, the unit parks low and tight, minimizing its visual impact on the skyline while remaining ready for the next maintenance cycle.

This building continues the transformation of Manhattan’s West Side and reflects the kind of long‑term, investment‑grade asset where thoughtful façade access planning is a must. For us, the real story is the growing body of work we’ve built in and around Hudson Yards: from office towers to large public venues, our façade access systems are already part of the daily operations at properties such as Manhattan West, The Spiral, and the Javits Center. Exciting news from the R&R Scaffolding team: we’ve been awarded the contract to design and supply the Building Maintenance Unit ( ) for the new Santander Tower in
This state-of-the-art will soon stand as a landmark on Miami’s skyline, combining modern with the precision and reliability demanded by one of the world’s leading financial institutions. The BMU, custom-engineered for this tower, will provide full access for cleaning and maintenance, guaranteeing both safety and efficiency for decades to come.
What makes this project especially meaningful is its global connection. The system will be manufactured and tested at Gondolas in Design SL, GinD, our specialized factory in Madrid, Spain, where precision engineering meets European standards of quality and innovation. For our team, delivering a façade access system from Spain to a Spanish bank’s new headquarters in Miami feels like bringing a piece of home across the Atlantic.

Apparently, Santa’s gone high-tech this Christmas. Instead of relying on his reindeer, he’s borrowed some of our BMUs for “pre-present surveying.” You can’t miss him waving from the gondola like it’s the North Pole Express.

The skyline evolves as Waldorf Astoria Miami Residences rises higher, shaping the east coast’s most anticipated address. R&R had been there every step of the way. We are looking forward to seeing these renderings come to live and our BMU being on the TOP!
