Onward and upward!

Work at the Bedford Heights Wastewater Treatment Plant is moving along, and the new 2.25-million-gallon equalization basin has risen into view. The basin, which is nearing completion of structural work, will help manage increased flows during wet weather events.

Structural work on the site's headworks and influent pump station is nearing completion as well. Once they are online, they will immediately increase the plant's capacity.

Over the next few weeks, our team will focus on:

🔧Installing process equipment and electrical gear
🔧Completing underground utilities
🔧Constructing a VAC truck unloading station and truck scale
🔧Paving the site

The project also includes upgrades to the city's existing treatment plant, including new clarifier equipment, return activated sludge (RAS) pumps, plant drain pumps, piping replacements, and control system upgrades.

Stay tuned for more updates as we bring this project to life.

🏗️🎉Our journey through the decades in honor of our 100-Year Anniversary continues!

As we reached the 1990s, Shook’s expertise and reputation took the company beyond Ohio into neighboring Indiana. We opened our Indianapolis office in 1994 to support growth in the retail, public building, and industrial markets.

Though our geographic footprint expanded, we continued to work on high-visibility projects in Ohio, including Wright State University’s Nutter Center, the Miami County Courthouse, and the Ohio Statehouse renovation. On the water resources side, we completed the Beavercreek Wastewater Treatment Plant and began a decades-long collaboration with the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District, delivering plant-improvement projects that continue today.

Check back each month as we share more milestones from the past 100 years.

We were honored to be part of the dedication of the Wade Weston Ambulance Bay at the Reid Health Connersville Outpatient Center.

Wade Weston was a respected flight paramedic and base manager who tragically lost his life in a medical helicopter crash in Indiana. Through a gift to Reid Health, Shook honored his legacy by naming the ambulance bay in his memory.

🎉 A well-deserved honor!

Congratulations to Shook Chairman Bill Whistler on being named to the Dayton Business Journal's Power 100, which recognizes leaders who have helped shape and strengthen the Dayton region.

Beginning his Shook career as a Co-Op, Bill rose through the organization to serve as President and CEO before becoming Chairman in 2020.

Over nearly five decades, he has helped bring to life projects that serve communities throughout the region. His impact can be seen in landmark facilities such as Dayton Public Schools, Dayton Metro Libraries, Premier Health facilities, and the Dayton Convention Center.

Beyond his project work, Bill has been a passionate advocate for civic leadership, economic development, and construction industry advancement throughout Ohio, serving in leadership roles with the Dayton Region New Market Fund, the Dayton Chamber's Minority Business Partnership, AGC of Ohio, and the Sinclair College Foundation, to name a few.

Bill's leadership reflects his steadfast commitment to Shook’s Mission, “To Dramatically Improve the Communities We Serve,” a mission he helped define and bring to life as a guiding force in our culture. That dedication is reflected not only in the projects he has delivered throughout the region, but also in the creation of Shook's Global Mission Trip Program, which extends the company’s legacy of service to communities around the world.

Congratulations, Bill, on this well-earned recognition, and thank you for the lasting impact you’ve had on Shook, the Dayton region, and beyond.

🏫 🎉 We joined West Carrollton City Schools, students, staff, and community members in celebrating the ribbon-cutting of the new West Carrollton Middle School/High School.

This new 192,000-square-foot facility brings students in grades 7-12 together under one roof while providing dedicated spaces for both middle and high school students.

The building is the final piece of the district's transformational, multi-year facilities program, creating modern learning environments designed to support generations of students.

Shook is proud to have served as the construction manager. Special thanks to our partners at Levin Porter Associates Inc and the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission.

Congratulations to the West Carrollton community on this exciting milestone. Take a peek inside this incredible new learning space!
