We are your North Carolina Custom Home Builder. If our vision isn’t engrained into each minute detail, it’s simply not Cottonwood built.

From custom-designed wood doors, blacksmith iron art detailing and original interior and exterior trim work, each Cottonwood home is an original work of art. What makes a Cottonwood home unique is the intangible spirit it embodies-passion for our craft, and our relentless pursuit of the sublime.

Karlblom Residence, taking shape above Lake James.

Designed around the views, this home features oversized windows, vaulted ceilings, a fluted bedroom wall and door, and a wet room with a tub extending toward the cliff.

No baseboard trim. Clean lines. Nothing competing with the architecture.

Gutter drains are going in now, with interior painting coming up next.

Progress at the Smith Residence 🏠

With the exterior now complete, the focus is shifting inside—where craftsmanship and custom details are bringing the home to life.

The house is fully trimmed out and awaiting custom cabinetry by Gotham Woodworks, who is also crafting the figured black walnut doors. The homeowner is taking an especially hands-on approach, creating all of the doors, door jambs, and cabinetry throughout the residence.

A few details we’re especially excited about:
• Tile work by Studio 321
• An exterior fireplace finished in Nichiha to achieve the look of formboard concrete
• A dramatic two-story gathering room with a tiled fireplace designed to resemble copper metal

Every material and detail is coming together with intention. Swipe through for a look at the progress so far.

Entryways set the tone for the whole house. In these two photos we see a main entry and owners entry. Each establish an air of modern, rustic - elegance, comfort.

Garage POVs🫡

More of that exterior POV from the Dauw’s! Back of the house, majestic views🙌🏼

How cool is it to have a bar with this view?

At the Dauw’s house, this extra space is being transformed into a bar, perfectly aligned with the balcony overlooking Lake James. From morning light to evening drinks, it’s the kind of spot made for slowing down and taking in the view, whether you’re enjoying it alone or with friends.

This weekend’s recipe:
Take the beach
Add in the lake
Dash in some mountain views
A splash with family and friends
Perfection. Bon appetit 🤌🏻

Exterior progress at Dauw.

Set on a steep lot at Lake James, the exterior design responds to a challenging grade with a narrower front-to-back footprint. Clean rooflines, warm siding, dark window frames, and large openings are now bringing the home’s modern character into focus.

The grade becomes even more significant toward the back of the home, where the structure rises out of the ground and is supported by steel.
