Had a couple studs in a stairwell that bowed back and were not in line with the adjacent studs. They were going to be hard to pull so I chose to use an older method to straighten them. I cut them about 3/4 and then pulled them into line adding wedges. Cut the wedges, added an 8p nail toe nail through the kerf and then sistered the studs. I do this on stairwell, shower and kitchen walls to straighten them up if I can’t replace the studs.

When you’re working in a finished house, it’s important not to create extra work. We had a past client ask us to do a small job installing some new handrails. After cutting and gluing the handrails in the shop, I didn’t want to have to do any painting or drywall work in an occupied home if I didn’t have to. So a careful layout with blue tape and a good stud finder allowed me not to create much mess and get the rails in.  I actually ended up spending as much time doing a layout with the tape and making Marks as I did installing the handrails. Having to fill extra holes and or paint over marks on the wall would have added a lot of extra time and cost the client more.

This is a really unique project. Got to cut these stairs for a unique entryway. Today I worked on the templates to make the stair tread blanks. Seven of them were wedge shaped to make the turn in a shorter length because the room wasn’t that big.

Pay between $19-$25hr (depending on experience)
• This position is 5 days a week, 40 hours a week. Besides being occasionally sick, the occasional family emergency and scheduled time off, you will be expected to be on time and at work each day M-F 7am-3pm. Occasional weekend and after 3pm work will be required.

- Understanding the general process of building or renovating a custom home from start to finish
- Reading blueprints and troubleshooting difficult projects for successful and timely completion
- Custom home framing, including stairs, complex decks, window and door installation
- Basic concrete forming and finishing
- Interior trim finish work, doors, complex baseboard and crown, cabinet installation, stair posts, stair railing and stair balusters
- Some experience operating equipment such as skid steers and excavators
- Account for and order additional material on site as needed
-You will be expected to communicate with the company owner on a daily basis about tasks, process, and performance.
- A clean driving record
- A driver’s license in good standing
- An ability to get to work every day
- An ability to work overtime occasionally

Historical Repairs

We were honored to be called to repair this historic church on Stewartstown road. It was a really neat project to work on. We had to support and repair the broken timber in the ceiling with modern materials (2 16” x 29’ LVLs) for all 3 beams. Wilson Works of Morgantown fabricated the steel hangers we designed and Advanced Engineering Associates of Charleston, WV certified the repairs. We wrapped the finished repairs with cedar trim stained to match the church. This can continue as a house of worship for years to come!
