Last week, we celebrated the Eastman Leadership Academy project coming to a close.
Bordeaux, Moseley Inc., Halifax County School District, and Raleigh Raised welcomed over 300 attendees, including alumni, members of the School Board, community leaders, and students ranging from grades PK-5 – to the Grand Re-Opening of the Eastman School.
The new Eastman Leadership Academy is constructed on the historic site of the original Eastman School, which began as an 18x20-foot schoolhouse in 1894, led by Miss Frankie B. Myrick. She secured a donation from nearby landowner and Kodak founder, George Eastman, to ensure the school’s continued development. With the time, labor, and resources of the community, the school continued to grow for nearly a century until its consolidation in 1981.
The event was a joyful celebration of the return of the Eastman School, which opens this Fall, and will accommodate 540 students in grades pre-kindergarten through eighth.
