Storms can happen any time of year, and the best time to prepare is before severe weather is in the forecast. As we recognize National Preparedness Month, take a few minutes this week to build or refresh your emergency kit. Include essentials like bottled water, nonperishable food, flashlights, extra batteries, a first-aid kit, medications, phone chargers and important documents.

Today is , and while the Dog Days of Summer may technically be over....it's still very hot in South Georgia. Here are some tips to save energy and stay cool:

🐾 Service your AC Unit.
🐾 Consider upgrading to a "smart" thermostat.
🐾 Make sure air is able to flow freely from vents and registers.
🐾 Cover your windows to keep out the sun's heat.
🐾 Replace incandescent bulbs with LED bubs.
🐾 Seal cracks with caulk or weather stripping.
🐾 Cook outside on the grill or use small appliances, such as a microwave or air fryer, to avoid heating up your house with the oven.
