Marine One officially has a new place to land 🚁🇺🇸
A U.S. Marine Corps VH-92A “Patriot” helicopter officially completed its first operational flight from the newly constructed helipad on the White House South Lawn.
Built on a heated concrete foundation to prevent ice build-up, the pad is topped with custom granite plates featuring the Presidential Seal engraved directly into the center.
The $6 million project was funded by Sikorsky (the VH-92A’s manufacturer) as part of an effort to address lawn damage caused by the helicopter’s intense engine exhaust and rotor wash during previous test flights.
The permanent, heavy-duty surface ensures the historic grounds remain intact while providing a safer, more durable operational area for executive transport.
The VH-92A Patriot represents the next generation of secure airlift for the President and senior officials -and now, it has a launchpad to match.
