Winter Ready—The “Mountain of Salt”: The hard working folks at American Rock Salt near Mount Morris, NY are ready for whatever winter brings here in the northeast—captured this the other day. They have tons of processed rock salt at the ready and can mine anywhere from 10,000-20,000 tons of salt per day. Trucks come and go, a train too, transporting the salt to municipalities across the Northeast. Generations of folks in this area of New York State have been working the salt mines around here since the late 1800’s and the days of the Retsof Salt Mine. This here is the largest producing salt mine in the United States.
