Each winter, during the slower flying season, the Pocono Mountain Flying Club takes the opportunity to do something that strengthens both our pilots and our club — we hold our annual Ground School.
And are to have one of our top instructors, Paul Houle, leading the class. Paul brings a tremendous amount of knowledge, professionalism, and real-world flying experience to the program. His ability to explain complex aviation topics in a clear and practical way makes the class valuable for students working toward their certificates as well as seasoned pilots looking to stay sharp.

This winter tradition has become an important part of what makes our club strong. It reflects our commitment to safety.
Thank you to Paul for dedicating his time and expertise, and to all the members who continue to support the spirit of learning that keeps our club moving forward.

Flightfest was held last Saturday. the weather was great and the club was well represented. I've attached a couple of pics to enjoy.

A special thanks goes to Steve LeBron and Chase Farmer who set up and manned the club's booth and talked up the club all the while they were there.

Congratulations to Malik Oumair on his first solo! Malik is an inspiration to us all. Malik served as airborne Infantryman in the 173rd Airborne Combat Brigade.

Congratulations to Nick Chapogas who solo'd yesterday in the early morning in '375'!!

Winds were light and sky was clear.

Soloing the first time is a flight that's remembered forever and this is a memory Nick will always recall with excitement.

Today, Nick is a pilot. Welcome Nick.

This event is not accomplished easily. It comes with effort, time and determination. Congratulations also go to his instructor Phil Polstra for his careful instructing of Nick and to all the club members who support the club within which Nick earned this solo flight.

Thanks go to Chris White, who, along with Rod Thrasher, spent most of Saturday 25,2025, hosting about 30 Boy Scouts earning their aviation merit badges. Chris and Rod helped them learn how to preflight an airplane and prepare a flight from MPO to Newark Airport, where they had a tower tour earlier in the day. This was a great service day for the club, and these club members are to be applauded for their efforts. These kinds of days require a lot of preparation. We received cards and correspondence from all of the participants and are grateful and humbled by the thanks of these hopeful future aviators

Pocono Mountains Flying Club Is celebrating its 14th year. Some members complete the milestone of flight and move on to careers in Airlines or similar companies, but most members continue to ply the skies of the beautiful Pocono Mountains. Whichever path they choose. They will always be part of the P.M.F.C. family

Celebrating with our P.M.FC. Family. The Christmas season is off to a good start. Celebrating 14 wonderful years with a wonderful Christmas spirit.

a large contingent of the club arrived Sunday at the clubhouse to celebrate the life of George Colby, an integral member of the club for many, many years. His wife Donna came with guests and a heartfelt ceremony next to the memorial tree was held. Brian McCartney and Paul Houle spoke with remembrances and uplifting memories of George and gave hopes that every member would live up to the high standards of ethics and volunteerism George had set in the club.

Refreshments and conversation were had in the clubhouse afterwards and more memories of George were regaled. Videos of George's flight which George himself had made were constantly shown on the monitor during the evening and that added vividly to his memories. It was very much a family environment.

A wonderful memorial to a wonderful aviator and club member.
