Should I get the PSS Type A or the Pro Shaft Seal? We get this question a lot. The truth is, you can't go wrong with either one.

Both the PSS Type A Shaft Seal and PSS Pro Shaft Seal use the same proven mechanical face seal design that's been keeping boat bilges dry for decades. The main difference comes down to the bellows material and maintenance interval.

The Type A Shaft Seal uses a nitrile rubber bellows and has a recommended service interval of 6 years. It's the seal that boat owners, boatbuilders, and marine professionals have trusted for years.

The PSS Pro Shaft Seal takes things a step further with reinforced silicone bellows, an extended 8-10 year maintenance interval, and a built-in Shaft Retention Collar (SRC) for added security.

For many boat owners, the Type A is the perfect fit. For those looking for longer service intervals and some additional peace of mind, the Pro Shaft Seal is worth the upgrade.

We're excited to welcome Owen Planck to PSS Seal as our new Logistics Apprentice!

Recently, Aaron Stephenson visited longtime PSS Seal customer Javier Garcia and the team at Marine Supplies in Cancún, Mexico to connect on a recent project.

This project supports Ultramar Ferry, a leading passenger ferry operator in the region. Ultramar runs a modern fleet of high-speed ferries connecting Cancún, Isla Mujeres, Playa del Carmen, and Cozumel—playing an important role in daily transportation and tourism. Their vessels are designed for comfort, efficiency, and reliability, with capacities ranging from 150 to 800 passengers.

Visits like this go a long way. Spending time face to face helps us better understand how these vessels operate in the real world, share ideas, and continue delivering the support our customers count on.

A big thank you to Javier and the Ultramar team for the warm welcome and continued partnership. We truly appreciate the relationship and look forward to what’s ahead.

We’re excited to be heading to Aberdeen on May 7–8 for this biennial event that brings the commercial fishing industry together under one roof.

When a major theme park updated its fleet of passenger boats, reliability wasn’t optional. These vessels run all day, every day, with little room for downtime—and absolutely no tolerance for bilge water.

By switching to PSS Seal, the operator was able to move away from traditional packing systems and simplify life for their maintenance team. The results were exactly what they were looking for:

This installation used a 35mm shaft with a 3” stern tube, and the PSS Type A’s non‑contact design and long service interval proved to be a great fit for a high‑use, highly visible application—where everything just has to work.

Working with AESSEAL, our team at PSS Seal recently partnered to design and manufacture a custom seal and fl**ge assembly for a challenging limited‑space application. With a 110mm shaft diameter and tight installation constraints, this project required close coordination between engineering, design, and manufacturing from start to finish.

By combining AESSEAL’s mechanical sealing expertise with PSS Seal’s application knowledge, we were able to develop a compact solution that met both dimensional and performance requirements, without compromising reliability.
