LET’S ASK MIKE: Will setting the thermostat REALLY low cool the house faster?

Mike says: "Nope! If your house is 78 and you want it at 72, setting the thermostat to 65 isn’t going to make the AC cool any faster. You’re just telling the system to keep running longer.”

Your AC doesn’t suddenly kick into turbo because you set the thermostat to 65°. It cools at essentially the same rate, it’ll just keep running until it reaches the temperature you set.

Set it where you actually want it and let your HVAC system do its job.

It’s a question we get all the time, especially when an older AC unit starts giving you trouble.

There’s not one right answer for every home.
