Holy Cross Hall welcomed new residents this week and became the first new building on Holy Cross College's campus in over a decade. A collaboration between Millies Engineering Group and Fusion AE, this $12 million, 29,000-square-foot residence hall will house 110 students in total.

Board of Trustees Chair John Gschwind described it more than simply new development construction - that instead it's built for generations of Saints to come. President Marco Clark added that the hall's rooms are spaces for students to grow in faith, friendship, and purpose.

Three resident assistants will lead the inaugural year and start the traditions every Holy Cross hall carries, from mascot to crest. The first floor features a community lounge, kitchen, and conference room, with a chapel opening later this fall.

Holy Cross College has sat on its 70-acre wooded campus near Notre Dame since 1966 and this new project will set the standard for housing at this growing college!

The Curious Kids' Museum broke ground on its new home at 601 Main Street in St. Joseph, marking a major step in its $9.2 million capital campaign to build a bigger, better museum downtown. The new space, formerly the Heritage Museum, is expected to offer 40% more room for hands on exhibits when it opens in winter 2027. We are always delighted to work alongside our partners at Carmi Design Group Design Group! Check out the article below to learn more!

Yesterday, Western Michigan University cut the ribbon on Valley Oaks, a $110M, 274,000 square foot residence hall. Now officially the largest mass timber project in Michigan, this is the final culmination of a huge amount of work alongside Hanbury Design!

Behind the exposed timber beams and floor to ceiling windows is serious MEP engineering muscle. Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems support in room climate control for every student, efficient water and energy distribution across four stories, and the infrastructure needed to make a mass timber structure of this scale perform safely and reliably for decades.

Choosing mass timber over traditional steel and concrete dramatically shrinks the building's carbon footprint, while also delivering biophilic design benefits like natural light, exposed wood, and integrated greenery that have been shown to support student well-being and reduce stress. Just look at those views!

Inside, about 1,000 freshman students will find pod style rooms, single occupancy bathrooms, community kitchens, a well-being studio, and outdoor courtyards. Valley Oaks is a testament that sustainable design and a great student experience aren't mutually exclusive.

Move in is late August - enjoy your new home home, Broncos!

Summer is here in full swing- time for our yearly seasonal social! Earlier this month, we gathered everyone from both our Munster and Grand Rapids offices for some fun in the sun – good food, sweet treats and some outdoor games (because some friendly competition never hurt anyone 😊)

Today is our nation's Semiquincentennial, making it a particularly special holiday. It's been 250 years since 1776, when bold thinkers signed their names to an idea that changed the world.

What's often forgotten is that some of our Founding Fathers weren't just statesmen, but also engineers and builders at heart!

George Washington started his career as a land surveyor, mapping the wild frontier of Virginia before he ever led an army.
Thomas Jefferson was an amateur architect and inventor, designing Monticello and tinkering with everything from plows to a portable copying machine.
Benjamin Franklin brought a scientist's mind to nation-building, inventing the lightning rod, bifocals, and more, all while helping draft the Declaration of Independence.

Today, Millies Engineering Group pays respect to those that engineered a country, brick by brick, idea by idea.
Here's to 250 years of building, innovating, and striving toward a more perfect union! We wish you a safe and comfortable holiday!
