Position Overview:
Bear Construction, LLC is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Grade Excavator Operator with the expertise to operate heavy machinery, perform precise grading, and load off-road dump trucks efficiently. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in excavation, grading, and heavy equipment operation, ensuring projects are completed to the highest standards. Duties & Responsibilities:
Operates a large Grade Excavator with high precision, ensuring work meets exact specifications and project requirements.
Load off-road and on-road dump trucks with precision, ensuring proper load distribution and safety.
Perform complex grading, leveling, and shaping of terrain for various construction applications (e.g., roadwork, site preparation, etc.).
Conduct pre-operational checks and routine maintenance on equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment and adhere to safety protocols at all times.
Observes assigned equipment to detect machinery malfunctions. Assures the proper operation and maintenance of equipment to the Foreman
Maintain a high standard of safety, operational excellence, and environmental compliance throughout the project.
Complete daily logs for fuel, load counts, and hours worked.
Perform end of day duties, fuel and grease own machine.
Perform other duties as assigned
Physical Demands:
Constant physical effort is required during a regular work shift of at least 8 hours per day
Employee must be able to sit for extended periods of time, as well as stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform duties
Ability to regularly lift and carry at least 50 pounds and, sometimes, up to 90 pounds
Physical dexterity involving stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions
Ability to remain alert to the multiple simultaneous activities on the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment
Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in different weather conditions
The Grade Excavator Operator must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely
Work Environment:
Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions
Employees are periodically exposed to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that are typically associated with a construction project
Employees regularly work near heavy equipment and moving machinery
Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel and ready-mixed concrete
Requirements/Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED
Minimum of 5 years as a Grade Excavator Operator in the construction industry having performed a variety of complex and high-precision construction tasks..
Proficiency in loading off-road and on-road dump trucks safely and efficiently.
In-depth understanding of advanced grading techniques, GPS models, and interpreting blueprints to execute highly precise grading work.
Knowledgeable in the areas of dirt work, including excavation, grade work, surveying and final excavating work
Proven ability to handle the challenges of working in fast-paced, dynamic construction environments while maintaining high productivity.
Experienced on all types of heavy equipment for dirt and site projects
Understanding of site preparation techniques and surveying
Understand the capabilities of earthwork equipment
Understand the basics of GPS technology and survey
Knowledge of OSHA and/or MSHA safety requirements and procedure.
Communicate production issues and implement plans to address them
Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with management and fellow employees
A valid driver's license
High standards of honesty, integrity, and commitment to producing a quality work product
Extremely detail-oriented and well-organized
Excellent communication, and problem-solving skills
Ability to follow directions
