What happens when college students step onto the foundry floor?

Through programs like Cast in Steel and partnerships with universities like Grand Valley State University, Ferris State University, and Iowa State University, the Eagle Group has been helping students gain hands-on experience with design, pouring, inspection, and manufacturing problem-solving.

More than a competition, Cast in Steel gives students exposure to real industry workflows, foundry environments, production constraints, and the realities of bringing a casting from concept to completion.

Our newest blog explores how these partnerships are helping strengthen the future of American manufacturing.

Eagle Precision Cast Parts' new website does way more than say: “we make castings.”

It's designed to help engineers, buyers, and OEMs actually evaluate our capabilities 🏭

The new platform gives a clearer look into:

✔️ Investment casting services and alloy capabilities
✔️ Industry-specific applications and part examples
✔️ Dimensional tolerances and design guidance
✔️ Quality systems, certifications, and inspection tools
✔️ Technical resources, process guides, and case studies
✔️ Videos, brochures, and downloadable references

The updated interface was built to make technical information easier to navigate—whether someone is sourcing a complex casting, researching materials, or evaluating process capabilities.

From prototype to production, the new site is designed to give customers a better understanding of how Eagle Precision approaches precision investment casting.

Take a look around.

Today is National Skilled Trades Day.

At the Eagle Group, that means recognizing the people behind the work across machining, investment casting, and shell mold casting.

Machinists, CNC operators, programmers, setup techs, maintenance teams…
Wax injectors, shell builders, slurry room techs, melt and pour crews…
Patternmakers, mold builders, core room operators, shakeout and finishing teams…

This day is for you.

It's because our skilled workers dedicate themselves to getting better at their craft every day that we can supply our customers (and their skilled workers) with the parts they need.

That keeps American manufacturing strong.

The Cast in Steel competition grew more this year than ever before.

From 39 teams in 2025, to 58 in 2026.

That means more teams, more ideas, and more students engaging with metalcasting in a real way.

Our very own Deb Pipoly, President of Eagle Precision, served on the judging panel, where she got to see firsthand the results of exposing engineering students to metalcasting: "You had some really cool kids, and if one or two of them decide to jump into our industry, kudos to us because most of them had never ever seen metal poured before."

--------------

Most colleges don't have foundry facilities, and that's why foundry partnerships are essential.

Being able to open our doors and give students access to our metalcasting facilities—mold making, pouring, finishing—is an investment in the future.

Shoutout to Steel Founders Society of America. We can see that you're just getting started 😎

The Eagle Group had a blast this week at American Foundry Society Metalcasting Congress!

Pictured here:

1) Eagle Alloy's Jeff Cook with a group of past AFS presidents. AFS members elect a new president each year, and Jeff took the helm from 2016 to 2017.

2) AFS CEO Doug Kurkul addresses the past presidents and prepares to receive a retirement gift from the group: a signed Ga***rd Perry jersey ⚾️. Doug will retire in May 2026, turning over the position to Justin Scott, Ph.D., CAE.

Thank you to AFS for putting on a great show, and thank you to all who attended, presented, and exhibited. We hope you enjoyed your time in beautiful West Michigan, and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

This step is where investment casting really earns its other name: lost wax casting.

Here, wax patterns are assembled onto a central sprue using heat. Each component is positioned to ensure proper metal flow during pouring.

Once the full assembly is built, it’s coated to form a ceramic shell. Then the wax is melted out in a kiln—leaving behind a hollow mold ready to be filled with molten metal.

The wax is “lost,” but the geometry remains.
