Opening Doors: Manufacturing Day and Community Engagement

A student can’t consider a career they’ve never seen.

That’s why we invite them onto our foundry floor—to see modern manufacturing in action and help them connect the work happening here with things they already know, use, and enjoy.

Those discoveries follow them back to the classroom. Geometry might mean a little more when they’ve held a turbocharger housing and learned how it fits into an engine.

Computer programming takes on new meaning when they’ve watched it guide a 10-foot robotic arm.

Manufacturing Day is an initiative started by the National Association of Manufacturers that helps bridge the gap between education and vocation, showing students how the things they enjoy learning about can easily lead to jobs they’d enjoy doing.

Rapid prototyping expands what foundries can accomplish.

Sometimes traditional tooling is the answer, but increasingly it's complemented by the latest timeline-accelerating technology.
