More Emergency industrial repair work this week. When our customers in manufacturing call, they aren’t asking for service tomorrow or next week, what they really mean is yesterday. The double scissor hoist below, which had failed badly, had an entire production line at a stand still, effectively costing 5-figure dollars per hour in lost production, plus employee overhead. We picked up the lift on Thursday evening and transported it back to our shop for evaluation and repairs. Lack of maintenance and some failed previous repairs led to some seriously involved work ahead of us. The pins we worn that bad, one was broken off. The main frame was worn into an oval, and the entire unit was galling as the steel forced itself up and down out of sync. We decided the best course of action was to set the height equal across the top and weld in place for machining. We cut out the old pin bosses, and then line bored the entire unit in one set up. This ensured that everything was square and parallel. We custom machined new bosses to weld in place that would help distribute the heavy loads, and also installed self lubricating bushings to allow service in the future. We rebuilt the (4) hydraulic cylinders and replaced all of the hoses. It was then test ran, pressure washed and repainted before we delivered back to the facility. All of this, and we were able to get the customer back in production by Tuesday for less than half the cost of a new replacement that would have taken 10-12 weeks to get.
