This New Jersey seafood processor was depalletizing thousands of glass jars every day... by hand.
This heavy, repetitive work was bottlenecking their line.
Our integrated solution not only increased productivity by 12% 📈, it freed up a lift truck and five employee positions for higher value work.
The key was to think beyond simple depalletization.
After considering the entire interaction between the pallets, jars, and production line, we designed a robotic layer-picking system that handles:
➔ Full pallet stacks
➔ Top frames and layer sheets
➔ Complete layers of glass jars
➔ Empty pallets
The system measures pallet height, uses cameras for crash detection, and feeds the jars into a Spantech buffering conveyor. A motorized anti-bridging mechanism keeps the bulk flow moving smoothly into a single-lane feed.
Effective depalletizing and front end automation is more than installing a robot to take over a task. It solves the underlying material-flow challenge to boost output and free up resources.
