Heat pump water heaters are becoming more and more common—and in many cases required—to meet Title 24 here in California. We’ve installed a handful of the all-in-one units where the heat pump sits right on top of the tank.

This new install is our first time using a split-system heat pump water heater, where the heat pump is located outside, similar to an HVAC outdoor unit, and the storage tank sits inside. These aren’t nearly as common in our area as the all-in-one setups, so we’re excited to see how efficiently this system performs and what kind of hot-water demand it can keep up with in real-world use.
