When your VFD is braking, energy created from the braking process must go somewhere. Without a properly sized braking resistor, this energy often can build faster than your drive can handle during deceleration or overhauling loads, leading to overvoltage trips, longer or limited deceleration, unstable controls, and or shortened component life.
