This kitchen was heavily water damaged and had to be gutted which allowed the homeowner to completely redesign their kitchen. Even after a fire, mold can grow on wood surfaces. The water used during firefighting efforts can saturate the wood leading to moisture accumulation. If these surfaces remain wet or damp, it creates an environment conducive to mold growth. Mold spores are present in the air and are seeking suitable conditions to grow and multiply. After a fire, these spores can quickly settle on damp wood surfaces and begin to colonize which is what happened on this exposed wood beam.

Before and After

Steam caused heavy damage to this kitchen which resulted in it needing to be completely gutted. We completed the water mitigation and demo and then our construction division worked with the homeowner to select new cabinets, countertops and flooring. In this home the water leaked down into the storage room below. It was left long enough to cause mold growth.
