PLEASE SHARE: On September 1, the owners of Nucla Station and New Horizon Mine along with State and Federal agencies and environmental groups agreed to revise the Regional Haze Rule compliance plan for Colorado. Since this impacts your community, Tri-State is holding a community meeting at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, September 14 at The First Park Community Center (formerly the Moose Lodge). At the meeting, Tri-State will discuss the agreement and your community’s concerns.
We encourage you to attend this discussion and bring your questions. Tri-State CEO Mike McInnes and representatives from the State of Colorado will be on hand to discuss Tri-State’s plans to work with community leaders as they determine a path forward.
Tri-State, along with the Environmental Protection Agency, the State of Colorado and two environmental groups agreed to revise the current Regional Haze Rule compliance plan for Colorado. Under the revised plan, Nucla Station in southwest Colorado will be retired by December 31, 2022, and Craig Station Unit 1 in northwest Colorado will be retired by December 31, 2025. Prior to the retirement date, both units will have more stringent limits on annual emissions beginning in 2020. The New Horizon Mine which provides fuel to Nucla Station, will also be retired by 2022.
