STORM ALERT:
As the potential comes through, PLEASE, as a homeowner, be aware of roofing companies knocking on your door.
This storm will be what’s known as a “rain-maker” with sustained winds no higher than a cold front thunderstorm.
While microburst are possible, wind bursts fast enough to damage your shingles (especially an architectural shingle) are highly unlikely.
Many roofing companies will use a storm such as this as an opportunity to gain access to your roof as a free inspection. They will then proceed to manufacture “wind damage” on their own and advise you to file a claim.
Many of these types of contractors will then promise to “cover” or “waive” your deductible calling it an “advertisement fee” or “referral fee” for referring them to a certain number of friends and family.
Make no mistake, this process is insurance fraud and highly illegal.
Please make sure to vet your contractor and request references.
And as always, use local!
