Located on a beautiful mountain property with a creek running through, this project was meant to develop and change over time.

The clients needed some grip rails to help their friends up and down their front steps, and wanted some stepped planters made from recycled material left over from their roofing project.

All the components were left unfinished, and will develop a patina over time to match the existing roofing, as well as the earthen tones present in the rest of the home.

This is the year of gates!

This client needed to replace some wooden gates that had seen better days. Up here in the mountains of Colorado the wind can be a beast, and a sturdier replacement that could stand up to it was needed.

Two of the back gates were purely functional, but the front one I was able to add some decorative flair. The client had a beat up old sign that I modified to fit the design - it was a challenge to integrate the organic form with the geometric patterns of the infill AND make it look good, but we think it came out really nicely!

Clean, sleek, and functional 😎 that's what this project needed to be to look right!

This gate was a retrofit into an existing railing system on the client's patio. They needed to replace the existing gate with one that had a compliant crash bar, and wanted something that fit the aesthetic of the other existing rail, including matching fleur-de-lis post caps and continuity between the new and existing elements. Finished with a color-matching powder coat, it looks like it was always there!

It's nice to get a project where I get a lot of creative license like with this one. The clients recently did a large amount of landscape work, including these cool terraced flagstone patios leading to the house. They wanted to add some custom metalwork that would elevate the finished product, provide a closed area for their dog, and provide functional grip rails for the flagstone steps.

They wanted a forged decorative tree motif for the double gates that attach to the curved guardrail in front of the house. I worked closely with the clients to finalize the look, hand texturing and bending the steel to create the design. Matching the curve and irregularity of the flagstone with the guard and grip rails was a challenge, but it turned out really nice and the clients are really happy with the result!

It's nice to get a project where I get a lot of creative license like with this one. Aluminum bracket repairs for a returning client - they tend to be at these things up pretty bad and the original production welds on this system had some issues when it comes to bead profile and joint prep so they failed at the weld.

I mechanically removed the old weld and oxidation, cut a good groove to lay weld into, and took special care to get a good bead profile and good stops and starts to prevent longitudinal cracking along the weld.

Ship's ladder metalwork is a wrap 👌👌👌

After a couple dry fits and a trip to the powdercoater this went in without too much of a fuss. The woodworker just needs to come in and mount the solid treads to the stringers. I'll come back for pictures when that's done!

Been working on this huge railing project, but the end is in sight!

Made for a massive remodel, this custom system was built for all the decks and staircases that connect them. This railing was designed to be powder coated and bolted together on-site.

Lots of jigs and measuring to get everything to fit right, long days and much time in FreeCAD, and so much production welding.

Just a bit more fabrication and powder coating and install, then we can call it a wrap! 🤙

This old road warrior limped into the shop in need of some major TLC. It's a storage and transportation rack for a railing system, done for a returning client.

I had to cut out the previous repairs to blown-out members and replace some other rotten metal. I tried to reincorporate as much metal and scraps as I could back into this project and had to use surprisingly little new metal ♻️

They needed it to be stronger, so I added a ton of extra cross-bracing so hopefully it won't blow up again any time soon!
