SUMMARY
Maintenance’s primary responsibility is to do preventative maintenance on the machines and handle any problems that arise. Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, Paper Converting machines and production equipment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Take direction and guidance from Head of Maintenance.
Keep current on any preventative maintenance that is needed on all machines.
Communicate effectively with machine operators and foreman about problems with their machines.
Communicate effectively with vendors-order needed spare parts.
Communicate effectively with Production Manager and Vice President about machine problems and needs.
Keep shop organized and clean.
Work extra hours as needed.
Be on call for emergency situations.
The maintenance person is directly responsible for the quality of the plants machinery. Routine and preventative maintenance must be accomplished.
Help keep all machinery running efficiently.
Make sure all machines have the correct guarding installed.
Initiates a preventative maintenance plan in writing for each machine and keeps up with preventative maintenance programs.
Learn the operation of all machines.
Use care when working on all machines.
Follow lock out tag out procedure as defined by OSHA, and see that it is followed when work is done to each machine.
Observe mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
Adjusts function of parts, devices and control insruments.
Repairs or replaces defective parts. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices. Lubricates and cleans parts.
Starts devices to test their performance.
Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, welder and other metalworking tools to make or repair parts.
Modifies existing machinery as necessary to enhance performance.
Change light bulbs in the plant, and is responsible for building maintenance.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, work assignments and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
MATHEMATCAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Must have some tape measure skills and be able to apply them.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. The ability to deal with and solve problems involving the machine and the final product.
