Seeking Project Manager - WisDOT Bridge Projects

Job Summary
As a Project Manager, you will oversee all phases of construction, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards. This role involves hands-on management from initial planning through project closeout, coordinating with teams, subcontractors, and vendors. During downtime, you'll actively engage in business development to identify new opportunities, especially to extend our construction season, and build new client relationships. The ideal candidate will serve as a living example of our Pheifer Foundations, demonstrating positive attitudes, a “Bring-It” passion for their work, ethical leadership, accountability, and a commitment to team success in every action.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead bridge projects from start to finish, including developing and implementing erosion control plans to ensure environmental compliance and site stability.
• Coordinate field staff, subcontractors and vendors, negotiating change orders, scheduling deliveries, and managing procurement to optimize efficiency and cost-effectiveness, including budgeting, resource allocation, and performance oversight to maintain productivity and safety on-site with our Operations Manager.
• Oversee project progression through construction phases, monitoring timelines, quality control, and adherence to specifications and handle project finals, including inspections, documentation, closeout procedures, and final reporting to ensure seamless handover and client satisfaction.
• During downtime between projects, promote and conduct business development activities, such as networking, proposal preparation, and pursuing new related opportunities to grow our portfolio: especially in Q4 and Q1 (our slow seasons).
• Exemplify the Pheifer Foundations in all interactions, acting with integrity, fostering collaboration, owning mistakes, and driving continuous improvement across teams.
Qualifications
• Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or 5+ years of experience in project management, with a focus on heavy construction or WisDOT preferred.
• Strong knowledge of erosion control, subcontractor coordination, vendor management, budgeting, and project closeout processes.
• Proven track record in business development within the construction industry.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in computer software (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, FastTrack) .
• Familiarity with WisDOT regulations.
• Commitment to safety, quality, and ethical practices aligned with "The Pheifer Way."
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel within Wisconsin as needed.
