Ignoring safety when using a forklift can have serious consequences. Workplace incidents involving forklifts cause tens of thousands of injuries each year in the U.S., and close to 100 deaths.
Forklift operator safety is the Lift Solutions Holdings’ safety focus for August. All forklift operators should employ these safe operating procedures:
• Seat belts: Besides being worn at all times, seat belts must be kept in working order
• Speed and travel: Indoor must be kept under 5 MPH. Loads should be moved close to the ground (4 to 6 inches). Horn must be sounded at all blind corners and intersections.
• Pedestrian rights: Pedestrians always have the right-of-way, so maintain safe distance and clear visibility
• Prohibited actions: Never carry passengers, lift people on standard forks without an approved safety platform, or exceed rated load capability
