Ignoring safety when using a forklift can have serious consequences. Workplace incidents involving forklifts cause tens of thousands of injuries each year in the U.S., and close to 100 deaths.

Forklift operator safety is the Lift Solutions Holdings’ safety focus for August. All forklift operators should employ these safe operating procedures:

• Seat belts: Besides being worn at all times, seat belts must be kept in working order
• Speed and travel: Indoor must be kept under 5 MPH. Loads should be moved close to the ground (4 to 6 inches). Horn must be sounded at all blind corners and intersections.
• Pedestrian rights: Pedestrians always have the right-of-way, so maintain safe distance and clear visibility
• Prohibited actions: Never carry passengers, lift people on standard forks without an approved safety platform, or exceed rated load capability

Contact Jason Sagorac for more information on forklift operator safety and training. Let’s all work to “lift” safety to its deserved level of recognition and practice!

Just a month ago, an EF3-rated tornado struck Menasha, Wis. (a neighbor community to Neenah) with peak winds of 140 MPH, damaging homes, businesses and lives along a 12-mile path. Miraculously, no deaths were reported.

The incident reminds all of us at Lift Solutions Holdings to be ready for severe weather, which can strike without warning. This graphic is a “how-to” for staying safe in high winds, tornadoes, severe storms, flooding and more.

Ignoring safety when using a forklift can have serious consequences. Forklift operations cause nearly 100,000 injuries annually in the U.S., with 7,000 to 9,000 involving lost time.

Forklift operator safety is the Lift Solutions Holdings’ safety focus for August. All forklift operators should do a daily pre-operation inspection of their vehicles:
• Checklist ex*****on: Operators must complete a visual and operational check before every shift, and record in the forklift-specific logbook
• Components to test: Tires, brakes, steering, forks, fluid levels, horn, safety belts, and fuel or battery system should be tested.
• Defect reporting: Any damaged or malfunctioning truck must be taken out of service and reported immediately to a supervisor

Ignoring safety when using a forklift can have serious consequences. Workplace incidents involving forklifts cause nearly 35,000 serious injuries annually across the U.S., and around 85 fatalities.

Forklift operator safety is the Lift Solutions Holdings safety focus for August. All forklift operators should have completed the following training and certification:
• Authorized operators: Only workers at least 18 years old, and having completed an OSHA-compliance training program, can operate a forklift
• Evaluations: Operators must pass a practical, hands-on driving performance evaluation before being authorized to use a forklift
• Operation: Operators should use only the forklifts for which they are trained and authorized. Stacker-type forklifts should not be operated.
• Refresher training: Skills updating is required every three years, or following an accident, near-miss, unsafe operation or evaluation failure
