Notably, 2x6 boards are only structurally sound for a maximum span of 6 feet; spans exceeding 6 feet require intermediate support. The previous owners utilized single 2x6 boards on the front and back of the 6x6 posts, securing the header to the poles with nails, which is inadequate for bearing heavy loads.
