before we can do the good work we need the right tooling, and most of the time it means we have to make it… this is a new mandrel for the popular 31.6 seat post… it goes in while i weld the seat tube to keep the tube round and true, and not ovalize… its also good for displacing oxygen which, much like when we purge with argon, which makes for a stronger, more long lasting welded joint… Kelly® Bike Company

a big shout out to Andrew Andrew Cooper for the sweet custom bend on this 31.6 seat tube… with every other bent seat tube out of stock due to the dipsh*t in chiefs tariff war, its smart business to offer an in-house custom bend option… now its possible for me to begin building the first ever Kelly 32” mountain bike… and its gonna be a fun build!

this was my bike back in 1996… a first gen knobby x 1x/geared combo… 1 of the first run of 50 frames (and forks) i built, that led to the growing knobby x production of 100-200 frames per year… pre-“gravel”… i rode this bike nearly every day and raced it on the weekends… it changed hands a few times over the past 26 years and found its way back home by way of its new owner in Boston for some water bottle bosses and fresh powder (previously Kelly Team Green), and i must say, the metallic grasshopper and leprechaun effect clear over decals are quite fitting for its new life back in Boston…
