Environmental sealing is not just about choosing the right gasket.

In defense and aerospace interfaces, moisture, dust, chemicals, vibration, and temperature changes can affect the entire HMI assembly.

That means engineers need to consider how the substrate, adhesive, gasket, overlay, keypad, membrane switch, and enclosure work together.

Even small details matter. Edges, display windows, openings, and cable exits can become potential entry points if sealing is addressed too late.

Our latest blog covers key considerations for designing environmental protection into an interface from the start.

Downtime is costly—and sometimes the smallest details can make a big difference.

Clear, durable industrial equipment overlays help operators quickly identify controls, reduce mistakes, and give maintenance teams the information they need to troubleshoot equipment efficiently. From production lines to automated machinery, the right interface graphics can support safer, smoother operations throughout the life of your equipment.

At Design Mark, we create custom overlays engineered for demanding industrial environments, with options designed to withstand exposure to heat, chemicals, moisture, UV, repeated cleaning, and everyday wear.

Did you know medical HMI design can influence how quickly users understand a device?

In clinical environments, small interface details matter.

Button placement.
Label clarity.
Icon consistency.
Color contrast.
Alarm visibility.
Touch response.

When an interface is hard to read or easy to misinterpret, the risk is not just poor usability. It can affect workflow, confidence, and decision-making.

Human factors should be part of the design process early, not added at the end.

Did you know a graphic overlay can help make medical equipment easier and safer to use?

On a busy device interface, every label, icon, color, and control needs to be clear at a glance.

That is why medical graphic overlays should be planned around more than appearance. They need to support readability, cleanability, durability, and operator confidence.

When the interface is clear, the equipment is easier to understand in the moments that matter.

Did you know ink choice can affect how long a medical interface stays clear and readable?

UV inks and solvent inks can both be used for medical device graphics, but they are not interchangeable.

The right choice depends on the overlay material, cleaning exposure, durability needs, and production requirements.

For icons, warnings, labels, and controls, readability is part of the user experience.

A medical device interface has to do more than look clean.

It needs to support the way people actually use the equipment: pressing buttons, reading instructions, cleaning the surface, and relying on the device to respond consistently.

For some applications, EMI and ESD protection can also become part of the membrane switch design.

That may mean reviewing shielding needs early, along with the overlay material, circuit layout, adhesive system, tactile response, connector style, and cleaning exposure.

The risk is waiting too long.

By the time the enclosure, graphics, and electronics are already set, small interface changes can become much harder to solve.
