Ray Hunt Design We are a Yacht Design and Naval Architecture firm that has offered a full range of services to the marine industry for more than 50 years.

Founded in 1961 by Ray Hunt and John Deknatel, we specialize in high-performance powerboat design based on the Hunt Deep-V hull pioneered by Ray, a world-champion sailor
and yacht-design revolutionary. We have applied the concept to a wide range of vessels from 10 to 140 feet, and today it is still the most practical hull shape for speed, comfort and safety in rough seas. We are proud to have hundreds of designs in service around the world - commercial and military, private yachts, and production boats.

We’re honored that our design for the 70-foot Calcasieu Pilot Boat was named one of WorkBoat's 10 Significant Boats of 2026. This newest pilot boat from Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding was launched in June. The Calcasieu Pilot is now at home on Lake Charles, Louisiana, where she joins three other Hunt designed / Gladding-Hearn built pilot boats in serving the bustling LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) terminals on The Pass.
