ArchKey Bruce & Merrilees continues to upgrade PA American Water's service, one pump station at a time.

Our team has installed new generators and improved electrical service at dozens of pump stations across Western Pennsylvania. Although the overall objective is the same, no two jobs are alike. Each station comes with its own unique challenges.

For example, at a station near the Allegheny National Forest, our team had to find a crane subcontractor who could navigate the half-mile long gravel road to the station, then maneuver within tight spaces in order to set the new generator on its pad.

In Armstrong County, installing a new generator required a planned outage so our team could first swap out the station's transfer switch.

Our team succesfully met each challenge, resulting in high customer satisfaction.

Wilkes-Barre Scranton International Airport needed new taxiway lighting, but it didn't want any cuts in the new pavement. So B&M's airfield team used a creative approach to deliver exactly what the customer asked for.

Typically, airfield lighting is installed after the pavement is poured by trenching through the new pavement. For this project, though, our team installed precast cans in the subbase, using geospatial measuring to ensure every can was set at the correct height. Then the pavement was poured. Afterward, our team cored the pavement and installed new fixtures into the precast cans.

The team worked two shifts on a compressed schedule and completed the installation in just three months. The work included more than 100 new lights and guidance signs, as well as taxiway pavement sensors and a stormwater gate.

It was a beautiful day for a lift when our team installed this new generator at a water pump station in Butler County, PA. The station itself is new, and will service residents of a new housing development. Bruce & Merrilees performed all electrical work on the job, including wiring the new equipment inside the pump house.

B&M's high voltage team has broken ground on a greenfield 345kV switchyard for a utility customer in the state of Indiana. Once grading and trenching is complete, our team must move quickly—we have just six months to complete construction before the deadline to energize. The finished switchyard will be used to tie in a solar field to the electrical grid.

B&M's Transportation team is finishing up its work along Route 119 in Connellsville, PA. The team spent the summer upgrading the traffic signals at multiple intersections. Now, they're completing final details in preparation for commissioning.

All told, the work spanned a 1-mile stretch of highway through the heart of the city. In addition to installing new traffic signal heads, our team also performed sidewalk and accessibility upgrades at each intersection.
