Well Shari and I took a few days off from baking and forging to go to Tennessee to brother Carl Southerland church at Hornbeak Tennessee. Great meeting and great friends in the Lord. Seeing old friends and making new ones is always a blessing. I took a little video of the back side of the old cypress lodge. They do guided hunts and fishing here also. Beautiful Reelfoot lake!!! We have a couple more shows before the end of the year. November 20th at VU Christmas party and December 5th at the ball room at the hotel in Boonville. Had a great year and I'm looking to restock and start fresh for next season. Give me a call or message me if you need a knife for Christmas, and Shari's Baked Goodies is taking holiday orders also.

Finished these up for a customer today. The spikes were in pretty rough shape but I thought they both turned out pretty good! At least for my standards!! I've made so many knives and yet I have a lot to learn! I think knowing I've got a lot to learn is the first step in getting better. I've had no teaching, all trial and lots of errors!!

A couple days ago I was doing what I enjoy, hammering steel! I changed the front of my forge, took the door off and covered it with firebrick. Made a couple cleavers and butcher knives and needed the length. The side door wasn't wide enough. Not exactly sure how I did it or why but I grabbed the brick blocking the hole. I set it aside to pull out and quench a cleaver. What happened next I'm not sure? I grabbed the brick to put it back in place and I grabbed it the wrong way!! I immediately dropped it but it was too late. All four fingers! My thumb was on the cool side! The middle and ring fingers took the brunt of my mistake! Won't be picking my Dobro or guitar for awhile. It's better today, I've had this crazy stomach bug so I've stayed home. When I had the home school group here I really really infisied safety!! A hot forge or steel is nothing to be careless with. It will brand you quicker than you can say ouch!! What I have done hundreds of times the right way I made a careless mistake and burnt myself. So be careful and no matter how many times you've taken the time for putting on the proper gear, DO NOT ever forget it, a few seconds can save you pain and embarrassment!! Those little designs are from the brick!!!! I will heal but the lesson will stay with me for a long time!! God bless and always be careful!!
