Middle Cross Forge

Middle Cross Forge Hello my name is Gilbert Humphrey, and I've been forging and building knives since the Fall of 2022. It's addictive to move steel with a hammer!

Great day at the Boonville Farmers Market! The weather was absolutely beautiful! We had a moment or two of heat but the cloud cover and the wind blowing really made it nice. That doesn't happen in August very often. Thanks for the knife sales today, I pray they are everything you need in a knife. I sold my Bowie today a little sad but it was time. We didn't have any bags left and the guy said that's ok I've got a belt. He wore it on his belt and walked out proud as can be. I'm always grateful for happy customers and today was one of those days for me! Or maybe it was just great to sell? Lol All three knives were leaf spring repurposed steel. I do enjoy making new things out of old things that most people just haul off for junk! The older the steel the better and what I'm using is off of a 1949 rear end! I'm treating it like gold too! At less than 4 years forging if the Lord allows me I just might get the hang of it one of these days. I've learned so much in that time! How to aneal steel, how to temper it after hardening it and moving it with a hammer is just so satisfying. What a fun knife to build and see it in happy hands!! Come by and see us, we are usually set up at the Boonville Farmers market every Saturday.

A few new kitchen knives that I'll have with me today at The Boonville Farmers Market. Some really pretty oak handles on these, I think they turned out pretty good. A couple design changes lol I'm always looking for something different but I still go back to the old hickory knives we had growing up. Definitely my favorite designs!

Down to 33 followers then the big giveaway! When mentioning bladesmiths I forgot to mention the very first one that I can remember. He was a bladesmith and I don't believe he ever did any forging but built beautiful and very good knives. Kenny Engles I have one for the last who cut my grandmas hair! Mrs Cain, she cut many a head of hair at her home in Franklin, Mo! He built it for her at Christmas time 1977! He signed every knife he built and that is why I sign mine. I didn't have a stamp, I like each blade having its own character marks lol!!! I'll be set up at the Boonville Farmers Market this Saturday the 25th from 8-12 noon come on by and see me! I've picked out 10 knives to discount for my propane, glue, and sandpaper needs!! Lol With a little hard work and some luck I might have a few new kitchen knives with me. Remember Middle Cross Forge has you covered from the field to the freezer! The picture is of another little gem I built along my journey!

Jim Kircher brought out my leg vice, stand and anvil he put together for me. I couldn't be happier! Yes after you left Jim I just had to heat up a piece of steel if just for a moment. Love everything about it! It's found a new home! I took a couple videos and some still pictures of the set up. I'll probably be building my give away knives this week. I've got 7 kitchen knives started and I did a little work on 6 that I had made. It's just too hot!! Ugh!! I came home and ran the w**d eater now I'm really hot! Gonna cool down and go back up to the shop later. Hoping we'll have new leather and knives this Saturday. Thanks for all the help Jim it was much appreciated.
