Someone get this man a microphone and step stool! He has just solved about 15 world crises in the span of five minutes! He needs to be awarded the damn Medal of Freedom awarded, I mean they gave Trump the Nobel Peace Prize just for being white the first go around as the first black president his first term at least before reverting back to his white husband Michael while telling other black men that they were not black 🙄.

With the Acadiana area dodging what could have been a weather-related incident, I am left thinking about the undisputed enemy all homeowners face repeatedly: water management and control layers. This overlooked aspect which plays a significant role in many areas of a homes performance, mainly because it gets covered up by aesthetically pleasing finishes and forgotten about. Often times the exterior cladding is falsely advertised as the homes primary defense against the elements associated with the climate the home is built. From ever increasing utility cost, unexplained difference in occupant comfortability, musky odors, and the source of countless homeowners insurance claims are just a few issues attributed to the majority of homes on the market. Tyvek housewrap is NOT the solve-all remedy to a growing problem. Just because there are no visual signs or evidence, does not mean there is no hidden issues.
So remember that you are the one who will ultimately have to live with the future outcomes of the home you are about to purchase, don't be afraid to ask questions. You have the right to know exactly how the control layers are to be constructed and the solution they are expected to provide. If you are not comfortable with the answers provided to you, seek out an experts advice until you do. You are the one taking on the long term burden of the purchase of the home along with the monthly cost to operate, you should be 100% confident with said decision

Purchasing a new home is often an emotional journey. We’re captivated by the design, exterior materials, color schemes, and landscaping. As we walk through the home, we fall in love with the kitchen layout and cabinets, ample storage, harmonious flooring, trim molding, wall finishes, and the luxurious Master Suite. The excitement of imagining birthday parties, family gatherings, and weekend get-togethers makes us eager to sign on the dotted line.

However, this emotional rush can cloud our judgment. We often overlook issues that would typically give us pause. After a few months, as the initial excitement fades, logic sets in. We start noticing high utility bills, the uncomfortable areas, malfunctioning doors, and cracking in the joinery of the trim moldings. These problems stem from the unseen building materials and methods used to during construction beneath the appealing finishes. We live in climate zone 2A, meaning on average we experience over 80 inches of rainfall annually! Consumers have been led to believe that the exterior veneer, ie. brick, stucco, all sidings are the protective layer. THIS IS INCORRECT. In fact, the majority of the above mentioned materials absorb water or depend on sealant (which often times begins cracking after the first year from UV exposer) to stop the wind driven rain, and when the sun comes out, it drives that absorbed water inwards, towards the building enclosure. Improperly designed and installed WRB (Water Rain Barrier), if you even have one, and NO, TYVEK housewrap is not a “cure all”.

There’s a much better way to approach building a home. A home built with a focus on being resilient, efficient, comfortable, and most importantly having a healthy indoor air quality.
