Job Summary
The Construction Estimator will play an integral role in both the pre-construction and ex*****on phases of projects. With a strong background in estimating and project engineering, this position requires an individual who can manage project costs, schedules, and risk while working closely with project teams and clients. The ideal candidate will be familiar with the distinct terrain and building conditions of Western Pennsylvania and have a track record of successful projects in the region.
Key Responsibilities
•Cost Estimation: Develop detailed and accurate cost estimates for construction and engineering projects, considering the specific challenges of working in Western Pennsylvania, such as hilly terrain, soil conditions, and weather-related delays.
•Project Planning & Scheduling: Assist in the creation of detailed project schedules, ensuring that all tasks are performed on time and within budget while accounting for local conditions.
•Site Assessments & Coordination: Conduct site visits to evaluate project scope, local environmental conditions, and logistical challenges, providing input to project planning.
•Bid Preparation & Procurement: Prepare bid packages, source and evaluate local vendors and subcontractors, and ensure compliance with project requirements and regional standards.
•Risk Management: Identify potential risks and challenges specific to the region, including environmental factors, local regulations, and site accessibility. Develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
•Collaboration & Communication: Work with local contractors, suppliers, and project teams to coordinate all aspects of the project and ensure smooth ex*****on.
•Documentation & Reporting: Keep detailed records of all estimates, budgets, change orders, and project updates. Provide regular progress reports to clients and senior management.
Qualifications
•Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
•Experience: 3+ years of experience in estimating and project engineering, with a preference for candidates who have worked on projects in Western Pennsylvania or similar environments.
•Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of the unique construction challenges of Western
Pennsylvania (e.g., hilly terrain, soil types, seasonal weather considerations).
- Proficient in cost estimating software (e.g., Planswift).
- Strong understanding of construction processes, project management, and
budgeting.
- Ability to interpret construction documents, blueprints, and technical
specifications.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
-Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project), with the ability to
manage complex data.
•Certifications (optional): PMP (Project Management Professional) or AACE (Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering) certifications, LEED credentials are a plus.
•Local Knowledge: Strong preference for candidates with experience working on construction projects in Western Pennsylvania or similar environments and have a deep understanding of the local construction landscape, regulations, and environmental conditions.
•Other: Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites across the region.
