π₯Άπ₯Ά EXTREME COLD TEMPERATURE REMINDER π₯Άπ₯Ά
Over the course of the next few days, we will be experiencing temperatures that our home's heating systems are not designed for. Whether you have a brand new furnace or boiler system, or an older heating system, in these conditions, it's not unheard of for homes to struggle to maintain desired temperatures.
Your heating system may be working at full capacity and it is very possible that you will see the temperature in your home dropping. This is not a time to panic. Be sure to monitor that your system is operating. If you have hot air coming out of your vents, or the radiator pipes on your boiler system are hot, your system is still working, it is just struggling to increase the temperature in your home due to the extreme cold temperatures outside.
Residential Heating Systems (even when properly sized for your home) are not designed to battle extreme rare temperatures when wind chills reach -40 to -50 degrees outside. Typical design temperatures are for 0 degrees.
Helpful Tips for the next few days..
1) Limit opening any exterior doors, including garage doors.
2) Increasing your normal set point on the thermostat by 2-3 degrees may help maintain a more desirable temperature in the home.
3) Turn OFF any programming mode that sets back your temperature while you are sleeping, or while you are gone during the day. Maintain the same temperature for the next few days.
4) Be sure that all vents and radiators are not blocked.
5) Monitor your intake and exhaust pipes on the exterior of the home. Clear all snow and ice build up to keep the front of the vent pipes free and clear.
Stay safe and stay warm!
