⚠️🚨

The co-op has received reports of someone going door-to-door attempting to get members to switch electric providers. As a cooperative, Firelands Electric DOES NOT participate in Ohio's energy choice program and these offers are not legitimate. Please DO NOT give these solicitors any personal or financial information or sign anything -- it could lead in identity theft, cancellation fees, or other scams to take your hard-earned money.

Remember, if you ever receive a phone call, email, or visit regarding your bill and are uncertain if it is legitimate, do not respond and call Firelands Electric Co-op directly at 1-800-533-8658.

Each spring, Firelands Electric Cooperative members receive a capital credits allocation notice in the mail. This report provides your total capital credits balance, as well as the amount that was added during the previous year.

These funds are used as operating capital to cover maintenance and updates, as well as unforeseen expenses such as major storm damage or other emergencies. By investing these funds into your co-op Firelands is able to continue providing reliable electricity, while also helping to avoid the possibility of increased costs associated with borrowing from a lender. Best of all, when the funds in your capital credits account are no longer needed, they are returned to you!

MYTH: Fans make a room feel cooler.

FACT: Fans make people feel cooler by circulating the air and helping dissipate heat. While they can be a great way to cool down in this heat, energy experts recommend using fans only in occupied rooms in order to save energy. πŸ₯΅πŸŒ‘οΈβ˜€οΈ

UPDATE 6/11/26 7:45 pm: The Peak Alert has ended and all water heaters and A/C systems returned to normal operation. Please note that load management may be necessary again tomorrow afternoon. Check here for updates. Thank you for your patience and helping Beat the Peak!

6/11/26 1:40 pm: The heat and humidity across the eastern portion of the country has prompted electricity suppliers to issued a Peak Alert. Load management will begin at 2 pm and last until about 7-8 pm, depending upon weather conditions. Co-op members voluntarily enrolled in Firelands' load management program will have the devices on their electric water heaters and central A/C systems activated during this time.

Not enrolled in load management? You can help reduce electric use by delaying showers, laundry, and cooking, as well as turning the A/C up a couple of degrees.

For more information on the reasoning behind Peak Alerts and ways that you can help reduce the demand for electricity, visit www.firelandsec.com/load-management.
