About Lapeyre STair

Lapeyre Stair is a company forged from a tradition of excellence in engineering. Company founder, J.M. Lapeyre, filed his first patent for a shrimp peeling machine in 1944. J.M. ultimately won 190 patents during his lifetime, including the alternating tread stair. In 1978, J.M. noted the difficulty of workmen navigating the steep stairs of an offshore oil rig while carrying equipment. Intrigued by the challenge, he went home, dusted his feet with talcum powder, and trace his own gait while descending the stairs in his home. That simple experiment led to the alternating tread stair and the founding of Lapeyre Stair.

Lapeyre Stair’s current product line includes steel welded egress stairs, bolt-together steel stair systems, alternating tread stairs, platforms, crossovers, legs, and safety gates. With in-house estimating, project management, engineering, and detailing, Lapeyre Stair is able to provide a complete outsource solution for stairs.
